Scouting Report:

The veteran Shawntae Spencer signed with the Raiders in 2012, after spending his whole career with the 49ers. A tall, physical corner who works well in press coverage and man-to-man assignments, Spencer is more comfortable in tight coverage, where he makes a good job re-routing receivers. He lacks the desirable burst at this point of his career, making him vulnerable in off coverages and zones. Spencer needs to improve his tackling skills, in order to prevent big plays and be more consistent in run support. With 72 starts in 98 games under his belt, he provides a much needed experience in the Raiders secondary. Has 345 tackles, 11 interceptions, 53 passes defensed and 2.5 sacks in his career. After an injury-plagued 2011 season, Spencer fell behind in the 49ers depth chart, getting released after the playoffs. Has experience playing as a nickel corner as well.
