What up RaiderNation? Welcome to this week’s edition of My Two Cents, with your favorite cantankerous Raider fan, Old Timer. This week we are going to talk about Raider 3rd round draft pick, Sio Moore.
Although UConn is well known for turning out quality basketball players, it is not exactly well known for turning out NFL quality players (only about 20 players in the past 30 years), that does not mean they don’t have NFL quality players. As a matter of fact, our own Tyvon Branch is a UConn graduate, and we all know how good a player he has turned out to be. But the latest UConn graduate to join the Raiders is really going to turn some heads this year. Moore played in 4 games as a redshirt freshman, but won the starting job in 2010 and never looked back. In his Senior year, he earned All-Big East first-team honors while contributing 72 tackles (15.5 for loss), 7.5 sacks, and 11 pass breakups.
Moore is a disciplined LB, understanding and maintaining proper gap assignments, and is also a solid tackler. He is good in coverage as well, but that is not where he is going to make a difference for the Raiders this year, you see, the Raiders are going to line him up all over the place (including DE) and turn him loose on the QB. This kid plays with a chip on his shoulder and a bit of a mean streak, and he is going to give opposing QB’s nightmares.
The Raider coaching staff got to know Moore up close and personal after coaching him during the Senior Bowl. Needless to say, they liked what the saw. Lets take a look and some of his highlights. Moore wore the number 3 for the Huskies, but wore the number 46 in the Senior Bowl (my apologies for some of the language in the audio):
As you can see from his highlights, he is a high motor guy that will not stop in his quest to get to the QB. He is going to give our Defensive Lineman a run for their money for the sack leader of the team this next year, we may have found the next Von Miller.
