The Oakland Raiders have signed veteran linebacker Omar Gaither this Wednesday, to replace also LB Travis Goethel who suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Ravens and was placed in the IR. Gaither went through a workout on Tuesday and reached an agreement with the Silver&Black today, in time for his first practice with the team. He will wear number 53.
The 6’2, 235 pounds Gaither is a former 5th round pick out of Tennessee by the Eagles in 2006, where he spent his first five seasons. His best year came in 2007, where Gaither recorded 103 total tackles, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble and 8 pass deflections. In 2011, Gaither played for the Carolina Panthers, appearing in 10 games (4 as a starter), with 31 total tackles, 1 sack and 1 pass deflection. The 28-year-old signed with the Texans in this year’s offseason, where he spent training camp and the pre-season, but could not get past the final roster cut. The 7-year veteran has career numbers of 320 tackles, 6 sacks and 2 interceptions, having experience playing both inside and outside at the linebacker position.
