That’s My Quarterback

As the heat of the spotlight glare glistens off of my aviators, I have but one thing to say… THAT’S MY QUARTERBACK! (In Terrell Owens crying form)

This is an interesting year to be a Raider. To go on and on about what has happened and who has come and gone would take all page. We all know of the changes that have happened the last two years.  I’m here to ask for a little change from my fellow Raiders.  It seems I can’t go on a forum, or even read comments on articles, without the constant calling for Carson Palmer’s head! Look I’m not going to stand here and say CP3 is the best quarterback in the league, or even in the division.  Does he make some mistakes?…. sure.  Was the price high to bring him in?….Definitely. I read some posts and think “who are they watching?”.  Let me tell you what I see.

When I sit In front of the 60 inch tv screen, with my dad and other fellow Raider fans I know, I see a quarterback. I don’t see an oversized, overhyped, overpaid prospect who tried to milk as much money as he could while giving as little effort on the field as possible!(ol’ #2)I see a player who restructured his contract in order to stay with a team he didn’t choose.  I don’t see the quitter that he has been pegged to be by people who have no idea the details of the bungle situation.  I definitely don’t see a player that deserves such scrutiny from the fans that he works so hard to perform at a high level for! As the great Steven King was once quoted, “Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work”.

When Carson was called off the couch last year in what Hugh Jackson called “the best trade in football”, I didn’t know what to expect. Who did? Would he come in and quit like so many people were saying? If he started losing, would he blame the lack of receivers or the defense? Could we have just traded away a first and second round pick for someone who doesn’t even want to be a Raider????? Well I don’t ask these questions anymore. Immediately he gets thrown into a game he had no business being in against the chiefs and starts plugging away. He took his beating, threw his picks, took his loss and went back to work. Through the rest of the season I saw a quarterback who was proud to wear the silver and black. Who showed up for work every day in an attempt to get better and make his team better.  “We fell off as soon as he took over!”  Ive heard this said over and over! Did anyone notice that with Jason Campbell we were running a conservative offense based off the run and high percentage passes? And did anyone notice that as soon as coach Jackson got his ol’ toy back he immediately tried to become the Rams of the Kurt Warner era?

This year is no different when it comes to CP3. I see a shuffled offensive line learning a new scheme. There are injuries at receiver happening almost every week.  Someone is in and someone is out. I see an offensive coordinator who is about as boring as football on a Tuesday. The Raiders sit at 2-4 when the record could easily be revesed. Writer after writer calling Carson a dilemma and does he hear it? You wouldn’t know because the only thing #3 is worried about right now is getting our first division win at Kansas City.  All you hear out of Palmer is the work they are putting in to get better.  All you see from him on Sunday is a football player doing everything in his power to try and win football games.  I have been a Raider all my life and I have seen some players quit, and I have seen some players not even try in the first place. That’s not what I see in Carson Palmer.  I see him make throws we haven’t seen a raider make in a decade.  I see him get up and dust himself off when the score is out of reach.  I see my quarterback. Time to get behind him Raidernation because I SEE A RAIDER.

I don’t now what your reading, if these so called Raider fans are blaming our current struggles on Carson Palmer then they don’t know what they are talking about, Sure the “leader” of a football team is perceived to be the quarterback but we should all know the real leader is the HC, Carson Palmer has done something amazing in my eyes, He’s not only thrown 12 straight games with 200+ passing yards but he has given us “fans” something to cheer about, I rue the day that #2 took over, I never wanted him to begin with, but what can i do about it, I’m more then happy to have Palmer as our QB, I just wish that Dennis Allen has the balls to tell Greg Knapp that the fucking ZONE BLOCKING SCHEME is NOT WORKING!!!! If McFadden was as productive as he at the beginning of last year we would be atop the AFC West.

I as well see a quarterback, I’m very happy w/CP3, I just wish we had a consistent receiver/team. I used to like reading comments left by Raider fans but recently there is so much negativity. Even writers that don’t have a clue are writing articles about the team that make no sense. Lets support our team through thick and thin. Eventually the organization will figure it out. All we can do as fans is enjoy what the Raiders bring on Sun. Win or lose Raider fan for life!!
