This week’s Oakland Raiders’ game could be against anyone. The best team, the worst team, or anyone in between. When it is time to play Denver, the focus leads to the Raider’s long extended rivalry with the Broncos. To me, we have to put that in the back of our minds this week. The team doesn’t need to win so we can put another notch on our “Beat the Broncos” belt. We need a win so that we can keep the hope alive. The hope of this new team we’ve all been dreaming about. Change takes time, but time sucks. We want to be good now. We want to see the new era of the Raiders NOW. This Raider team won’t do that by giving their all so that they can beat Denver this Sunday because of the rivalry alone. They will only do that because they are giving their all to keep this time heading in the right direction, no matter the opponent.
We have seen pieces of what could be a complete puzzle. The problem is, the pieces aren’t fitting together at the same time. Let’s talk about some puzzle pieces.
Discipline
After a much needed win over the Steelers last Sunday, what sticks in my mind is not that we were the underdogs and pulled out a win. It’s the lack of penalties! FINALLY! It was like a dream come true. One of the Silver and Black’s biggest hindrances seemed to finally be under control. They went almost three quarters before their first penalty, a personal foul. Well a personal foul here and there, when deserved, over false starts all day, in my opinion. Can they keep this going? Can they do it again? Was this a glimpse of a newly disciplined team, or was it pure luck? Please let this piece of the puzzle stick!
Getting In The Freaking End Zone
Don’t get me wrong, I love Jano. To me, he is the most consistent player on the team. But, this team relies on him too much. I want to get in the end zone!! Can we rely on Carson Palmer, and the receivers to make catches in the end zone? Palmer was throwing some beautiful, on point passes on Sunday that went undelivered. How can this be? Let me tell you. We don’t have a consistent receiver yet this year. Who is the go to when we need a touchdown? …….. Crickets. Still waiting for that player to step up, but hope is in the air and it sure was nice to see some touchdowns on Sunday.
Finding McFadden a Partner In Crime
Darren McFadden, bless his beautiful heart. He is a work horse. He is fun to watch. But guess what, when he is seemingly the only weapon, people catch on. He needs a friend! He needs someone to commit those running crimes with. He can’t carry all the weight. He is finally back and healthy and the coaching staff can’t overwork him because he is the only option.
So to recap, the Raiders need to keep their heads in the game and keep the flags in the pants. Let’s get the ball in the big beautiful end zone and let Jano shine only when completely necessary. And for the love of God, can we please find McFadden a friend to take the other team by surprise from time to time. We have the players, we have the resources, we have the heart, we just need to get everyone in the right seat on this bus that’s heading towards a new era.
