My Two Cents 9-8-12
What’s up RaiderNation? It’s time for another weekly edition of My Two Cents with silverandblackdaily.com’s resident old codger, Old Timer. This week I would like to talk about the recent teaming up of the rapper Ice Cube, our own Darren McFadden, and Pepsi to create a new anthem for the RaiderNation. The song is called “Come and Get it” and if you haven’t had a chance to hear it, you can listen to it now.

Now, before I go any further, let me just say that I am not, nor have I ever been a fan of rap or hip hop music. I am a rocker pure and simple. I grew up listening to the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Led Zeppelin, etc. I play rhythm guitar, and sing lead vocals in the group that my drummer’s daughter calls “The Old Man Band”, and there is nothing that energizes me like great rock music. I can be so tired I can hardly move or keep my eyes open, and I can hear a song like “Communication Breakdown” (Led Zeppelin) and you better get out of my way because I am moving!!
But I am also a purist, and it is hard for me to imagine having anything other than this for the RaiderNation anthem (kudos to voodooraider for this video):
Although I am a rocker and a purist, I strive to have an open mind about all things, including music. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the Oakland Raider themed songs out there and see what might the best song for the RaiderNation national anthem. I am going in no particular order here.
I guess we should probably start with Ice Cube’s previous Oakland Raiders song, Raider Nation (nice job on the montage by mares408):
Next up is Raider for Life by ENOC (thank-you yffent)
Then there is this one dedicated to our beloved leader, a song called “Thank You Al” Hazmat Boyz AKA Dem Raider Boyz. I have to admit, I was choked up after hearing this one (thanks again to D0nt3ven):
There are a couple of others by Hazmat Boys I will mention here. The first is “Total Eclipse” (thank-you to blacksunday34):
The second is “Solidarity” (big thanks to TBHVision):
But if I had to choose a song to represent the RaiderNation, and it wasn’t the first video posted of the Autumn Wind, I’m not sure I can go with any of these (remember, this is “My Two Cents” here). One song I haven’t mentioned here that is often associated with the Silver and black is “Back in Black” by AC/DC (thank-you sparkysparky):
And lastly, here is a song that tells the world what they are doing if they mess with the RaiderNation, “Flirtin’ with Disaster” by Molly Hatchet (thank-you GimmeBackMyBullets75):
Like I said before in this article, I am a purist so I think I have to go with the Autumn Wind. It has been associated with the Raiders for as long as I can remember, and watching it still sends chills down my spine. But what do you think RaiderNation? Nice article – Im an old timer too, so I voted for Autumn Wind of course – but I love all these new tunes too- all loaded on my iPod for my workouts !
you missed one other one that I have – Just Win Baby by Shieldhead – its not an anthem as such – but its a great Raider song !!
