Derek Hagan Declares he’s Back with “DA Raiders”
As first reported by Derek Hagan, himself, the wide receiver is returning to the Oakland Raiders for his second stint with the team in as many years. You might remember Hagan as the most reliable possession receiver in the Raiders’ wide receiver corps at the time.
Now I have officially signed back with DA Raiders!!!!! Can’t wait to put that silver and black back on!!!! #Raiders

Then, during the bye week (week 8), coach (and new de facto GM) Hue Jackson picked up an aging T.J. Houshmandzadeh to be his brand new franchise quarterback Carson Palmer’s security blanket. What this meant is that someone had to go. The “odd man out” in this case was Derek Hagan. So after appearing in 6 of the first 7 games, and starting two of them, Hagan was out of a job. Hagan had 11 receptions for 114 yards and no touchdowns in those games.
The former third round pick in 2006 (Miami Dolphins) out of Arizona State then latched on with the Buffalo Bills to finish off the season. He added 13 more receptions for 138 yards and 1 touchdown while appearing in four games for the Bills. It had been widely reported that Jabar Gaffney was visiting the Raider’s facility for a workout today, but Paul Gutierrez confirmed that Hagan also worked out for them, making his signing much more plausible.
Hagan was cut by the Bills at the final cut down to 53. He also worked out for the New York Jets yesterday before doing so with the Raiders today and ultimately signing.
The most obvious take from this move is that at least one of the Raider’s injured receivers (Jacoby Ford, Denarius Moore) or even both may be sidelined for the team’s Monday Night season opener against the San Diego Chargers. Look for an official announcement from the team sometime before tomorrow evening’s practice.
Oh, and for those of you chiding him to change his “Work hard, Play hard!!! Bills Wr#80″ bio, he has this to say to you.
Imma change my bio n a min!!!! Love y’all raiders fans!!!! Westcostn
