Preseason Game 1 Breakdown for Kansas City
The Chiefs played their first preseason game of 2012 on Friday night and suffice to say, they were as advertised.
Questions about Peyton Hillis, Matt Cassel, and and the Kansas City defense were answered emphatically, leaving little doubt that the Chiefs should be the favorites in the AFC West heading into the regular season.
Here are a few quick notes and highlights:
-Matt Cassel looked sharp. He was the wild card all offseason when discussing how good this offense could be and he did not disappoint. We’ll see how he looks going forward, but if his 5 for 6, 67 yard and 1 touchdown performance was any indicator of how the season is going to go, the NFL better look out.
-Peyton Hillis looks born again. He only carried the ball four times, but each time he did, he looked as if he was sending a message to the rest of the league that his 2010 campaign was no fluke. If he stays healthy, this Chiefs backfield will be a handful.
-The offense was efficient without Baldwin, Bowe, or Breaston. Again, scary.
-This defense looks like the ones that carried New England to three titles in the early 2000′s and that’s just the way Romeo Crennel wants it. Preseason or not, seven sacks is impressive.
-I can’t stress enough how good I think Devon Wylie will be. The Chiefs seemed to hold him back a bit, but you saw flashes of greatness in his 32 yard punt return.
So that’s week one in the books for everyone in the west besides you know who.
Preseason or not, let’s Just Win Baby and take out the ‘Pokes tonight.
