Carson Palmer Helps Unemployed Receiver Get a Job

Oakland Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer received more than one phone call from his former college head coach over the past few days.  No, they weren’t the type of nostalgic calls you would expect from a former coach and player.  It was a little bit more than that.  Palmer’s ex coach happens to be the current head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.  The nature of Pete Carroll’s calls were to get a little insight into an aging wide receiver that Palmer has personal knowledge of.  You see, Carson spent the 2010 season throwing passes to him, and part of his most recent offseason working out with this guy.  His name is Terrell Owens, you may have heard of him.

“Coach (Carroll) had reached out to me a couple of times. Just knowing coach’s style and the way he goes about teaching and leading his team. I just thought that T.O. would be a great fit.”  Palmer expanded on those comments, “I had the opportunity to play with T.O. and really enjoyed playing with him. It was a great relationship and we continued to work out afterwards and didn’t have anything negative to say about T.O.”  More than anything, Palmer thought the planets were perfectly aligned for T.O. and the Seahawks as he stated “It was a great relationship when I was there and I thought I would just let coach know that I thought he would fit in there with his style and I think they are going to have a lot of success together.

When asked if he has spoken directly to Owens, he said “Yeah. Just traded text messages with him the other day. Maybe today, I think when he signed. I haven’t been paying attention to the news, just texting him back and forth congratulating him. Like I said, I think he will be successful there.”

So there you have it.  Terrell Owens can than his lucky stars that he has a friend like Carson Palmer.  Had Palmer hesitated to give Owens an endorsement, chances are he would never have been invited to try out for Seattle.  The one thing Carson can’t do for T.O. is make the team for him, though.  He’ll have to do that on his own.
