Tony Bergstrom Signs: One Down, One to Go

NFL Network’s Albert Breer has used the immensely popular platform known as Twitter to break yet another story.  It may not be an earth-shattering development, but it is in regards to something that has been weighing on the minds of Oakland Raider fans lately.  There are two mid to late-round rookies (Tony Bergstrom, Juron Criner) that the Oakland Raiders have yet to acknowledge that they have come to terms yet with.  Breer put half of those worries to rest earlier today.

Tony Bergstrom was the final pick in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.  It was a compensatory pick awarded to the Raiders as compensation for losing key free agents from the previous season.  Bergstrom is listed 2nd, at the left guard position, on the depth chart behind Cooper Carlisle and is expected to compete for the starting job during training camp which starts on Sunday (7/29).

That leaves only Juron Criner as the lone unsigned draft pick on the Raider’s roster.  Although, according to Vic (the artist formerly known as Vito) Tafur is reporting that Criner will be signed and will report to camp by Sunday.

My prediction, and gut feeling, had been that both players would be signed by today.  One of the two signings has come to fruition, and the second is still possible.  Regardless, I never saw this as a major issue.  It is quite conceivable that neither the team nor the players thought so either.  Look for full participation beginning Monday’s practice.
