Oakland Raiders Sign Kyle Newhall-Caballero

What’s up RaiderNation? In case you hadn’t noticed, the Raiders just signed another UDFA, a QB whose last name may not fit on the back of his jersey. Kyle Newhall-Caballero, 6’3″, 214 lbs., is a two-time All-Ivy League selection out of Brown University.

He put up pretty good stats in both his Junior and Senior year. His Junior year, he completed 259-of-413 pass attempts for 2,709 yards and 18 touchdowns. He had similar number his Senior year completing 226-of-369 pass attempts for 2,356 yards and 18 touchdowns.

According to Dennis Allen, he is not just a “camp arm”. When asked about the signing, Allen had this to say “I don’t think we bring in anyone that’s just for charity,” head coach Dennis Allen said. “We bring in guys that we think have a chance to compete and have a chance to be decent football players. And that’s what I think about him. That was the plan all along, to bring in a 4th quarterback. We wanted to bring 4 to camp, to make sure we did have 4 arms and I think Kyle will do a nice job there.” When asked what he sees in Kyle that makes him feel he is a fit for the team, Allen said “I think he’s smart, he’s athletic and he’s got a strong arm.”

I have seen and heard comments all over the board on this signing, including an article that would suggest that he has a shot at the starting role. I would say that thinking is a bit delusional. The one comment I am most inclined to agree with is, they are going to have a hard time fitting his last name on the back of his jersey!! LOL Well, that’s it for now.

Peace out RaiderNation!!

  1. J.P. Scott says:

Don’t be surprised if he wins the backup spot. He’s gonna study the playbook, he’s going to be prepared, and he can make all the throws that Pryor and Leinhart can make. He comes with less baggage as well, which is something that this coaching staff and administration seem to be all about unloading.
